Apple releases iOS 16.6.1 and macOS Ventura 13.5.2, here’s what’s new

today seeded minor updates to iOS 16 and Ventura with critical security updates and bug fixes. The updates are recommended for all users to prevent potential security vulnerabilities.

What’s new in 16.6.1 and 13.5.2?

According to Apple, the .6.1 update contains “important security fixes and is recommended for all users”. The update also fixes an issue where some iPhone 13 models could not access the Wallet app or use Apple Pay¹.

The macOS Ventura 13.5.2 update also includes security fixes and addresses an issue where some Macs could not wake from sleep properly¹.

Apple has not revealed the details of the security fixes yet, but we expect them to publish more information via support documents soon.

The updates come as Apple continues to work on the development of iOS 17, macOS Sonoma, and watchOS 10, which are expected to be released later this year.

How to update your Apple devices?

To update your compatible Apple device to the latest available software version, follow the steps below:

  • To update your iPhone or iPad, launch the Settings app, tap General, then Software Update. Wait for the update to appear, then tap Download and Install.
  • To update your Apple Watch, launch the Watch app on your iPhone, tap General, then Software Update. Wait for the update to appear, then tap Download and Install. Make sure your Apple Watch is connected to its charger and has at least 50% battery.
  • To update your Mac, launch System Preferences, then Software Update. Wait for the update to appear, then click Update Now.

Remember not to shut off your device or unplug it during the update process.

When the update finishes, your device will be running iOS 16.6.1, iPadOS 16.6.1, watchOS 9.6.2, or macOS Ventura 13.5.2.
