Digital ID Initiative for Apple Has Been Pushed to Early 2022
Apple introduced a slew of new features in iOS 15, but some of them are currently unavailable to customers. You may scan your documents and have them available in your Wallet app at all times, just like Apple‘s digital driver’s license and ID feature for participating US states. Apple had originally planned for the feature to launch in late 2021, but the company now says it will arrive in early 2022 on its iOS 15 page.
Arizona and Georgia will be the first to implement the digital ID system when it launches, followed by Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky; Maryland; Oklahoma; and Utah. However, there is no exact time frame for when these other states will follow suit. Although the costs of the rollout will be paid for by the taxpayers, a previous report stated that Apple will have a significant degree of control over the process. Apple will be in charge of marketing and launching the program, but the states will be responsible for maintaining the credentials systems.
